I've used three different cordless mowers, but not this one.I Have the 20" Toro with 36 volts which works very well and a 19"/24V B&D, which I found to be adequate 80% of the time - with only 24V it struggled with tall grass. On paper the Greenworks looks pretty good on features but may fall short in power. As one of the only self propelled electrics it's clearly got less competition.I'd get this before the Epic 21" /24V self propelled.
I've put a quick guide of the most popular models on Amazon. All info reported by manufacturer. Amazon won't let me put prices in my review, sorry!

>>Why SHOULD I get a cordless electric mower? They are super quiet, clean, and convenient. They aren't necessarily cheaper than a gas mower since they cost more up front but there is almost NO maintenance. (We spent $80 over 10 years for a set of replacement batteries.) Corded electric mowers are a lot cheaper but then you have a cord.

>>Why SHOULDN'T I get a cordless mower? They weigh a LOT more than gas mowers so if you have a hilly lot or have difficulty with physical exertion, forget it. They don't have as much power as gas and re-fueling means charging for a few hours so if your lot is over ½ acre you may want to reconsider.

>>Why do they all come with mulching PLUS bagging? Electric powered mowers have come a long ways but mulching still takes a LOT more power than discharging, so bagging is pretty much a standard feature.

>>What is a watt-hour? It's basically how big your gas tank is - the more watt-hours, the longer you can mow before you have to recharge.

>>Is the cutting path a big deal? Yes - for two reasons. 1) The first thing manufacturers do when power is marginal is reduce the blade size, so I tend to see the smaller mowers as more likely to be underpowered. Second, when you consider that you have to overlap each pass by ~3", a 20" blade now effectively cuts 13% more on each pass. If you have a larger yard, you definitely do NOT want anything under 18"Also, my measurements show most mowers overstate their blade size by 1/2" (Our 20" measures 19-5/8, our 19 measures 18-1/2)

>>Why might I want a removable battery? If you have a large yard, this means you can have a second battery charging while you are using the first. A second battery typically costs $100-$150 but it can make the difference between going electric or not. Finally, if you keep the mower in a shed that doesn't have power, a removable battery will let you bring it in for charging.

>>How long will my batteries last? That depends on your climate and usage. We had a small lot for many years and were religious about recharging right after use. We also live in a cooler climate (Michigan) so the mowing season is shorter. Our batteries lasted about 7 years. Most people should get 3-4 years easily but if you're careless and live in Arizona, you could probably kill the batteries in a year or two.

>>Why should I care about higher voltage? Higher voltage = more power, PLUS you can recharge the mower faster. With the same chemistry and current, a 36V mower will charge 50% faster than a 24V mower.

>>Metal deck or plastic? Metal rusts but with minimal care it's not an issue. Plastic ends up giving you a more stuff to trim since you can't cut as close to fences, etc.

This is one great lawn mower! Very simple, turn the key it starts immediately no pulling on a rope. The self drive bar is very controllable, the drive speed ranges from creep along to run behind. The mower is the same as the Lawn-Boy 10642 except for us folks in CA we pay an extra $20 for CARB Compliant. This lawn mower makes cutting the grass a very easy and quick process. Since TORO is the product of choice for professionals, and Lawn-Boy is made by TORO, you are getting a very well constructed and reliable consumer product with this mower. Also the 6.5 GT Briggs & Stratton engine is really a much better product than the Honda engines on many consumer mowers. The Honda engines on consumer products isn't the same as the commercial Honda Engines that earned Honda a high reputation. The only problem I experienced was that FedEx damaged the box in transit, not Amazon's fault. The oil container broke open on the damaged corner and the box and mower was covered in oil when it arrived. Amazon customer service offered me the option of sending out a new replacement unit FedEx overnight or a compensation credit for my clean up time of the oil covered unit. I have never been disappointed with Amazon's customer service over the years, that is why I always visit their site first for all my purchases.

WORX WG788 19-Inch 36 Volt Cordless 3-In-1 Lawn Mower With Removable Battery & IntelliCut Review

I got this in today, Having tried to find all of the information available prior to buying.I was between this mower and the Black and Decker and the difference for me was the power on demand system to conserve energy.I figured that could be worth the difference in delivery time since I thought that feature would be handy.

I found an advertising video showing a lady pushing the mower along and turning a knob on the handle to make it louder and work harder on the tall grass. (this may have been the WG789 in retrospect)
Unfortunately the knob isn't on the handle, rather the knob is down on the mower deck in front of the battery. This seems like it would make it a much less usefull feature as you have to stop and lean over and adjust it, I guess this is visible in the bove picture but there are no labels or decals to highlight it.

UPDATE: This is really not inconvenient after all. It's only when changing to areas where it may be longer or wetter that you need the power feature and it's not that inconvenient to be on the deck.

The only other complaint is that the quick adjust for the handle works great when pushing the handle down, however if it is set in the high position (three settings available) and you lift up on the handle to move the rear wheels it can pop out and fold forward like it would for storage. This doesn't seem to be a problem in the low and medium setting.I can likely fix this myself and the ergonomics are very good. UPDATE: The initial reaction of the handle, to pop out when lifted on in high, went away after just fifteen minutes of use in the high position.

The mower is very easy to push and the larger rear wheels are nice for turning.I only tried the mower out in my lawn (raining out and wet) shortly and the lawn wasn't that tall. The cut is good and the mower is quiet, I didn't notice a lot of difference between "quiet" and "power" settings, but the grass wasn't very tall and I wasn't trying to cut it very short. UPDATE: the difference is there but most evident in tall wet grass.

I have about a .9 Acre yard and got this to do edges, areas where I couldn't get to with a mower and to use in a pinch.I will mow my lawn Saturday to determine how many square feet the battery and mower are actually good for, I will also post pictures.

UPDATE: June 4, pm

Jut got home to it having been a nice day and the lawn isn't too wet, damp for sure, but not too tall, so I took her out for a spin.Battery had been used* (*out of box) slightly last night and charged up fully overnight.I checked the battery very religiously and regularly. It was about 35-40 minutes when it went from 3 lights to 2, then about 35-40 more till it went from 2 lights to one.I ended doing about 110' stripes and checking the battery at the end of every run and it had Just dropped to 1 light, after about 2 minutes of not mowing it went back up to 2 lights, and it didn't noticably slow down, but I stopped before figuring I should have read the manual :P and don't want to mess up the SLA battery.

The charger does seem to be a decent piece of kit too.

I Cut the grass on the medium setting ~2-3.5", I am happy with how high this deck will go it seems like it is almost 6" which is nice for organic lawns as tall grass doesn't get as many weeds. Also the adjustment is easy and feels solid.I was cutting mostly from 2-4" of grass off so I wasn't making a big cut but I did a bunch of edges and clumps where I was cutting 6-12" of grass down and it ate right through without any hesitation!!!

I think it will do the whole yard when it's dry in the summer!!!Pushing this will keep me active, it is a bit cumbersome to turn, just a bit heavy mostly

The bagger seemed to work very well, although I only did a small 20'x60' "lawn" with the bagger, then mulched another 20'x60' more "lawn" and noted that I couldn't tell the difference between the bagged and mulched am happy.I still think the side discharge is the most efficient way to process the grass, so I proceeded to side discharge the rest of the yard.I think the side discharge seems to save energy. I mowed about 85% of the grass in my lot, including a lot of 12-16" tall clumps where the rider I've been using has been missing.I mowed back and forth and in as even of a grid as I could, switching between power and quiet as needed, this feature seems to really work and can extend mowing time, also not really that inconvenient located you only switch between runs so it works great. My lot is ~38,000 sq ft but I figured out that I have about ~22,000 sq ft grass/lawn, and have under 4000 left,
I believe that this mower actually just mowed a bit over 18,000 sq ft, on it's maiden voyage, NICE!!

It's an absolute delight when a product, not only meets expectations but, exceeds them!!

I got this mower last summer and have really liked it. It's far better than my old Wal-Mart special. I initially had an issue with the choke, but my local dealer was able to adjust it in about 15 min. All covered under warranty.

I'm not sure about the "requires allot of maintenance" a previous reviewer mentioned. The maintenance requirements are no different than any other mower I have owned. The difference here is the manual is very thorough in explaining how to perform the maintenance. Most of the maintenance is checking the oil, making sure nothing is broken or loose, etc. Things you should do any way. Other than that change the oil and air filter ever year, keep it clean, and the blade sharp and your all set. The Honda engine will need the valves adjusted from time to time (~200 hrs) but that is common to any OHV engine. You will probably need a trip to a mechanic for this unless you're fairly mechanically inclined.

The mower is easy to setup and always starts with one or two pulls. I really like the rear bag. Unlike my old mower it is actually possible to completely fill the bag. I can mow allot more before I have to empty it. The deck is easy to adjust and provides a nice even cut. The adjustable self-propel is easy to use. No gears or fixed speeds. The more you squeeze the handle the faster it goes. It's that simple.

The only thing I find disappointing is the self-propel gear box housing seems to be made out of some kind of heavy plastic. I would prefer metal like the Honda HRR/HRX mowers but those mowers are also more expensive. This is not to say I have had problems with the self-propel, it works fine, I just like traditional quality over high tech plastic.Other than that I find the build quality to be quite good.

All in all I'm very happy.

So far this has been a great mower, it is easy to push and works well.It came basically fully assembled, all you have to do is tighten the knobs for the handle. The battery appears to hold a charge for the listed time, maybe more. And one key point to me is the battery is removable to be charged, unlike the Black and Decker where the battery has to be charged in the mower.I will try and update this over time to comment on how the battery holds up over time. The design is wonderful and with the safety key you should never have a problem with it turning on unwanted. It mulches well too.It is also very quiet, probably 1/3 to 1/2 as loud as a gas mower.Overall everything is easy and appears good so far, we'll see how it holds up over time.

Toro Recycler (22") 190cc Personal Pace Lawn Mower w/ Blade Override - 20333 Review

Toro Recycler 190cc Personal Pace Lawn Mower w/ Blade Override - 20333
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first self-propelled mower. I'm coming from a basic, no-frills machine that I bought some years ago when I just wanted something cheap that would do the job.

I bought this mower at the local Depot, cheaper than the advertised price here even after tax was added. I brought it home and unpacked it.Setup was done in just a couple of minutes -- unlike my previous mower, this one is almost entirely assembled in the box. All you need to do is put the handle on and attach the blade clutch lever to it.No tools required.

Next, add the fluids. The mower comes with the right amount of 30-weight oil. Then fill up the gas tank, and you're off.

The mower has an engine kill switch like you'd find on a motorcycle. Switch to "I" (Ignition). Pull the starter cord.Mine fired up on the first pull! The engine runs smoothly (and much quieter than my old mower). You don't need to have the safety bar pulled in at this point -- the engine will run, but the blades will not spin.

Pull the safety bar in and the blades start spinning. Release it and they stop, but the engine keeps running. Kill the engine by flipping the ignition switch to OFF.

That's cool. With my old mower, every time I let go of the safety bar it killed the engine and I would have to pull the starter cord again to get it going.

The propulsion is really nice. The upper section of the grip is spring-loaded and slides up and down the vertical handlebar rods slightly. The more pressure you apply to the handlebar, the faster the mower will want to move.Release the bar, and the mower stops moving. There is another, secondary handlebar underneath that can be used to circumvent the propulsion entirely, if desired.

There is also a large lever that allows you to change between mulching and bagging. This can be done at any time. With the bag attached, pulling the lever to the rear will start bagging, while pushing the lever forwardwill close off the opening to the bag and start mulching instead. The mower also comes with the side discharge attachment, which installs easily and is very effective.

When you're done mowing, there is a port on the side that accepts a standard garden hose. Attach a hose to the mower and turn it on.Then start the mower and start the blades spinning. It does a really good job of cleaning out the mower for you. When the water coming out starts to run clear, just shut off the hose and let the blades keep spinning for another few seconds until the mower is dry.You will still need to clean out some of it, though, like the bag port, which the hose doesn't reach.

The Briggs & Stratton engine seems strong, easily handling whatever horrible things I threw at it (with a caveat, explained below). Propulsion was also strong, and even going up a steep incline behind my house required only about 5% of the effort required with my previous mower. The overall build quality is excellent, and it's a real looker to boot.

There are a couple of minor quibbles, but nothing significant enough to merit the loss of a star. I'm not a huge fan of the white wheels, which were already turning green after the first mow. And the wheels themselves don't turn as freely as those on my old mower. Presumably this is because of the propulsion mechanism, so I guess that could be the case with any self-propelled mower. And finally, when in mulching mode, the mower seems to stall more frequently than my old mower when it hits the hard stuff. I live in Florida, and it rains a lot in the summer.Sun + lots of water = grass that's sometimes a foot high in a week. So if the grass gets too long in between mows, this mower will sometimes stall because there's way too much material to mash around. However, switching to side discharge or bagging solves the problem immediately, and the mower will cut ANYTHING.

WORX WG712 13 amp 16-Inch Electric Lawn Mower Review

WORX WG712 13 amp 16 inch Electric Lawn Mower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, I confess.I was a bit skeptical, especially when I realized the Worx electric mower was only 16" wide-- I'm replacing a 20" Snapper. Even a little more skeptical when I pulled it out of the box-- I never, ever imagined a lawn mower could appear like something half space-ship, half cartoon in real life and still do a decent job-- but it looks very cool and modern! Then I noticed those familiar styled little plastic wheels that used to adorn my kids' Big Wheel trikes-- another strike. Finally, I flustered trying to "snap" together the 2-piece plastic grass-catcher.

But not to worry-- really, this is a "positive" review.

Once I got over all that and pulled the machine out onto my small urban front and back lawn, all doubts blew away.

The Worx 16-inch mower "works" like a dream (couldn't resist that). The 16" swath it cut was just right for my two 12x15' patches of grass. The 13 amps were perfect to cut my overgrown semi-wet grass without any trouble at all. I was relieved to discover the mower engine has a not-too-loud blower sound a little like a turbine. That seems to be less obnoxious than other electric mowers reviewed on Amazon. And the cutter deck height was simple to change with their single lever 6-height adjustment feature.

I stored the catcher untouched in my small garage. Using the mulcher attachment, most of the grass easily & cleanly worked its way back into the lawn with little obvious mess. About only thing that needs improvement here is use of a small black plastic clip to hold the attachement in. I'm sure that will eventually be lost.

As far as the "Big Wheels" go-- I wish it had real rubber ones, but so far the mower performance has eclipsed any complaints I might have had initially. I also am not impressed with their catcher-- I'd much rather see a 1-piece molded plastic version on future models.

So, as of its first use, I love my new mower and have happily laid my old smoking Snapper to rest. I'll report back after the summer has past with my final evaluation.
