The machine is difficult to pull behind ATV and get close enough to fence to do and adequate job and then is easily bogged down by grass. The recoil action increases the difficulty in doing a nice job of mowing.The postmaster does have limited application along ditches but again you must move very slowly to allow machine to keep running this can be extremely difficult even in the lowest gear on an ATV.I have owned the postmaster for two years but after initial trial period rarely use the machine. Very disappointed.

The Swisher Postmaster trimmer attachment is designed to be pulled behind your ATV, lawn tractor, or utility vehicle to trim along fence lines or around trees and other obstacles. Using a patent-pending, spring-action, breakaway trimmer head, this trimmer is able to pivot around posts and obstacles to provide a close trim up to and around whatever is in its way. Powered by a 6.75 HP Briggs & Stratton engine, this product uses a tough .155-inch diameter cutting line to take down grass and weeds safely and efficiently. The trimmer offers a 22-inch cutting width for maximum coverage, and the left or right hitch adjustment enables you to trim on either side. (More customer reviews)When the Item was received, several small parts were missing.After contacting the Swisher company, I was assured that the missing parts would be provided at no cost.That promise was fulfilled.

However,, I have the following comments concerning the design of this machine: (These comments are keyed to the Swisher Owner's Manual, 10696 Rev-06-32).

1.The pull start is located on the engine.Most modern lawn machines with a 'handle safety squeeze bar' are configured with the pull handle mounted within easy reach of the handle.

2. The machine does not have any method of acheiving accurate cutting height, other than the operators ability to judge the distance between the cutting cords and the ground. The plastic threaded roller (item 10) is inadequate and the distance from the ground should be adjustable by the operator.

3. Operation of the machine causes cut material to pack into the space between the rear drive pulley (item 2) and the rear cover (item 5).

4. The engine 'cooling' design is self defeating because as material is cut it is sucked onto the top engine grill over the air flow intake and prevents air from flowing over the engine. That is not good and must prevent adequate engine cooling.

These changes in the aforementioned flaws would make your machine a much more usable item.

It works very well, it got bogged down once in some thick wet weedgrass but other than that it has worked great. (More customer reviews)I purchased an older model of this Troy Built Chipper Vac about 5 years ago.
THE CHIPPER: will handle limbs up to about 3/4 inch. Feeding limbs in I noticed it usually won't finish pulling the last part of the limb into the chipper. I feed them in from the base of the limb first. This leaves the leaves going in last. So I just use the next limb to finish pushing in the last one this works pretty well.
THE FRONT VACUUM: works fairly well at picking up dry leaves. Once in a while it will leave some leaves behind and you have to go back over it (I admit my grass was a little high when that occured the leaves hung up in the grass so make sure your lawn is cut). My experience is it takes several passes to get pine needles vacuumed up but I admit I had left them on the ground awhile and that may have been a factor. I have never had the wide front vacuum clog. Another note about it is if you are vacuuming leaves off your driveway the vacuum will such up small gravel and you can hear it bashing around in the chipper. I am sure that's not good for it (So I recommed blowing the leaves off the drivway and vacuuming them up).So to sum it up it does not do to bad. The wheels are ajustable in height.
THE VACUUM HOSE: does pretty good at getting in around flower beds and such (If you have a leave blower you could also just blow the leaves out of the flower bed and vacuum them up with the wide front vac). Sometimes when you are vacuuming with the hose it will clog. If a twig gets sucked up or you hit wet leaves it will clog. Usually the clog is where the hose connects to the deck. Just press the release remove the hose and pull the stuff out it is fairly easy.
MY COMPLAINT: The unit is NOT self propelled. This is a heavily constructed machine it has some weight to it. It is a little hard to push around and when that bag is getting full it is more tiring to push around!
OTHER: It does have a somewhat heavy pull start to it I believe it is to the fact that you are spinning the weight of the chipper blade with the engine to start it. But it has always started by the 2nd or 3rd pull for me. So if these problems are not a major drawback to you I would recommed the unit if you have a small area to vac. Me I am considering buying a self propelled.
